SHAPE project with TAILSIT

VSC is supporting TAILSIT to port and optimize their engineering simulation software tools to take advantage of modern High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems.

We are happy to announce that the Austrian Opens external link in new windowPRACE partner VSC Research Center of TU Wien was selected to support Opens external link in new windowTAILSIT who recently got funding from the Opens external link in new windowSHAPE 12th Call.

Opens external link in new windowTAILSIT is a company based in Styria, Austria, that produces custom-fit simulation software tools for electromagnetic problems and structural analysis. One of TAILSIT’s unique selling propositions is a numerical software library based on a coupled Finite/Boundary Element Method (FEM/BEM) for the efficient analysis of electromagnetic problems. Even with implementing advanced techniques, such as the Fast Multipole Method (FMM), the use of the BEM is rather limited on an average desktop workstation. The company now got funding from SHAPE to port and optimize their product so that it can take advantage of the capabilities offered by modern supercomputers.

Opens external link in new windowSHAPE is a pan-European programme run by PRACE that helps SMEs to adopt High-Performance Computing (HPC). The programme aims to raise awareness and equip European SMEs with the expertise necessary to take advantage of the innovation possibilities opened up by High-Performance Computing (HPC), thus increasing their competitiveness. Within this SHAPE project, TAILSIT gets help from HPC experts as well as access to the supercomputer VSC-4. The team will incorporate distributed-memory parallelism and implement optimized communication strategies with the Message Passing Interface (MPI).

Opens external link in new windowEuroCC Austria, with its mission to facilitate access to HPC infrastructure and know-how, serves as a first contact point for academia, industries, and public administration in Austria. It will connect those in need of HPC, Big Data Analytics, or Artificial Intelligence with the appropriate experts and providers of HPC resources. With its national and international contacts, EuroCC Austria will also help in finding an appropriate funding for pilot studies and/or HPC access on a national or European level.
