VSC-School @ TU Wien

announcement for 2021W

This autumn all courses will be delivered as ONLINE COURSES for remote participation (using Zoom).

VSC-School is designed to improve the proficiency in High Performance Computing (HPC), and the courses offered in this context are open for all interested scientists and students, course language is English.

Participation in selected single blocks is possible, please register for each block separately.

Students (TU Wien and other Austrian universities – please note especially step 3 with your Opens external link in new windowco-registration) can earn credits (ECTS) via Opens external link in new windowVSC-School I and Opens external link in new windowVSC-School II, please contact us via: training@vsc.ac.at

This autumn we offer three courses that are still open for registration, i.e., the

VSC Training Courses ONLINE:
Parallel programming with OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA

Want to boost your computer simulations by writing parallel code that runs efficiently on modern compute clusters? Join in for our online courses in English and learn about parallel programming for high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

On clusters and distributed memory architectures parallel programming with the Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the dominating programming model. And nowadays you'll find multicore (shared memory) CPUs basically everywhere, which are most easily and efficiently programmed using OpenMP. In addition, many of today's high-end HPC systems are equipped with GPUs allowing for a significant improvement of the computational performance, with CUDA being the standard API for code development targeting the GPU.

All our courses start from a beginners level and lots of hands-on labs (in C and Fortran, for MPI the hands-on labs are additionally available in Python) will allow to immediately test and understand the basic concepts of parallel programming.

The courses are organized by the Opens external link in new windowVSC Research Center of TU Wien, and for OpenMP and MPI this is done in cooperation with the Opens external link in new windowHigh-Performance Computing-Center Stuttgart (HLRS).

For VSC users and academic participants from Austria all courses are free of charge.
