VSC in AI landscape 2024
The Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC) is featured on the list of key players in Austria’s AI ecosystem.
Every year, the think-tank AI Austria publishes an overview of Austrian startups, companies, and research institutions active in the field of artificial intelligence. In 2024, for the first time, VSC made it to the list in the category “Enablers & Extended Ecosystem – Research” alongside such prominent names as the Austrian Institute of Technology, Fraunhofer Institute, and Austrian Academy of Sciences.
AI on VSC
Our inclusion in the AI landscape underscores the critical role of high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure in driving AI innovation. With the surging demand for computational power in AI research and applications across science and industry, VSC is ready to meet these needs.
Today, Austria’s flagship publicly available HPC systems offer approximately 1,000 state-of-the-art GPUs, housed in VSC-5 and MUSICA. This robust infrastructure enables first-class research and development, serving academic institutions and public-sector organizations while also allocating a percentage of its capacity for commercial users.
AI ecosystem
However, advancing AI requires more than cutting-edge hardware. A thriving AI ecosystem relies on collaboration across academia, industry, public administration, and research institutions. Skills development, technical expertise, and access to funding are equally critical — and this is where the VSC partnership excels.
Through our flagship HPC training program, dedicated technical support, and active participation in national and international initiatives such as EuroCC, the European High-Performance Joint Undertaking, and EUMAster4HPC, we remain at the forefront of technological advancements and knowledge-sharing. Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited to continue our efforts and witness the further growth of the AI and HPC ecosystem.
