EVITA: EuroHPC Virtual Training Academy

VSC joins new EU project EVITA to help standardize Europe’s HPC training.

We are excited to announce that the VSC team is part of a new European initiative: the EuroHPC Virtual Training Academy (EVITA). This EU-funded project officially started in April 2025 and aims to build a unified, inclusive, and future-ready training framework for High-Performance Computing (HPC) and emerging technologies across Europe.

The project will provide high-quality, modular training materials that can be adapted to different learning needs — from university courses to professional development and independent learning. It will also support training providers with tools and methods for designing and delivering effective HPC education and certification.

Partners and funding

With the coordination of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) (Spain), EVITA involves partners from seven European countries. The partners include Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) (Germany), VSB - Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) (Czech Republic), Linköping University (LiU) (Sweden), Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) (Italy), Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) (Austria), Université du Luxembourg, and University of Stuttgart (USTUTT) (Germany).

The project will collaborate closely with other training initiatives, such as the HPC SPECTRA training portal, the EuroCC network and the EUMaster4HPC project.

EVITA is funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking under the Digital Europe Programme, with a total budget of €6 million over four years.

Role of VSC

The VSC members are involved in all work packages of the project. A particular emphasis is placed on defining the Competence and Qualification Framework (CQF) — the core structure that will describe which skills and knowledge HPC learners should acquire. We are also working to ensure that this framework integrates smoothly into the broader European HPC training ecosystem.

Our participation in EVITA is a natural extension of the VSC’s role as one of Europe’s flagship HPC training centers. With extensive experience in delivering high-quality training and education, we aim to contribute to future European standards and best practices for teaching and learning HPC and related technologies. This highlights VSC’s ongoing commitment to advancing skills development and HPC literacy and deepens our collaboration with key HPC institutions and initiatives across Europe.
